Animation Portfolio

Animation is a skill I took up rather recently, and it is currently the center of my college studies. Below, you will find eight projects and experiments I have done so far.

Banana Plus

This animation is a parody of modern advertising, inspired by a similar video which can be found here. The mock ad features a technologically advanced banana which was filmed over a green screen and key lighted to fit seamlessly into the sequence. It was created mostly using Adobe After Effects, and focuses vastly on various effect settings found in the effects menu. In Spring of 2024, this sequence was awarded 1st place in the animation category at the Owen's Community College student art show.

Targets

This is a colorful visual sequence created based on the first 20 seconds of a song titled Targets created by my friend and former classmate, Kody Griffin. The song plays throughout this animation with the transition of each visual being built off of its pace. Overall, this project was very experimental for me, and served almost like my own playground for trying out certain concepts and effects both in Adobe After Effects and Adobe Illustrator. In Spring of 2024, this sequence was awarded an honorable mention in the animation category at the Owen's Community College student art show.

Sleep Paralysis Infographic

This 30 second infographic was created for a class project, and uses raster visuals accompanied by a simple voiceover to explain the phenomena sleep paralysis. Every single visual asset of the video was created either in Adobe Illustrator or Adobe After Effects, the latter being used to animate everything. Please note that upon every attempt to export the animation into video format, I have found that many gradients used in the video become noticeably blocky despite not appearing so in After Effects. This is an issue still being looked into, and will hopefully be resolved soon!

Familiar

This is the first animated short film I have ever fully completed. It is rather simple, showing a tattered boy standing in front of a mysterious structure which houses a ghost. Like Banana Plus, the animation features keylighted frames, this time in the form of a heavily edited PNG sequence. However, unlike the former, this animation uses digital hand drawn animation as its main medium, as well as scenery created in Adobe Photoshop through the use of collaging and automatically generated foliage.

Intrusive Thoughts

This project is not a finished animation, but an animatic for what might become a short film later on. It has been cleaned up into final line art as best as possible, though there are still a few rough paper sketches included. The story seen in the animatic is that of a character walking the streets in the middle of January who suddenly wonders what would happen if he threw a snowball at an old lady in front of him. He is repulsed by the thought, but cannot seem to get rid of it. This idea is visualized by animated snowballs that continue to multiply. Keep in mind that the animatic below is merely the first half of the story, with the second half still in production.

Character Animation Test I

This is some of my first work experimenting with character movement in hand drawn animation. The video below contains three different views of the same animation, which features two characters: A young girl, and a small, abstract being. The animation has not been fully completed, and consists only of line art, some of which is very rough and has not yet been cleaned up. It was created using Adobe Animate.

Character Animation Test II

This brief animation, also created in Adobe Animate, was made following the sample above, and this time features a cat and a small, oblivious worm. While the worm has fully completed and cleaned line work, the cat is still only in a rough sketch phase.

Bouncing Chibi

This finalized animation is a simple loop of a character created in Adobe Illustrator, and then animated piece by piece using Adobe Animate. She is an asset of a future project I am currently planning!
